What is STEMIX for?

Stemix: An Innovative Device for Controlled-Temperature Cryoprotectant Mixing

In the dynamic field of cryopreservation, maintaining the integrity and viability of stem cells is crucial. The Stemix is a device specifically designed for controlled-temperature mixing of cryoprotectants in a standard 25ml cryo-bag. This advanced technology optimizes and enhances the preparation process of cryopreserved stem cell products, making it an indispensable tool for laboratories and medical facilities.

Innovative and Cost-Effective Solution

The Stemix stands out as a professional solution for precise, controlled-temperature mixing of cryoprotectants. Its design ensures compatibility with standard 25ml cryo-bags, including the 25ml Pall bag. By allowing operators to program the temperature, duration, and mixing speed, Stemix offers reliable control over the cryoprotectant addition process. This level of precision is crucial for maintaining the quality of cryopreserved stem cell products, which are highly sensitive to temperature fluctuations and mixing inconsistencies.

Key Features of Stemix

  • Compact Design: The Stemix’s form factor allows it to be easily integrated into any laboratory environment without taking up excessive space.
  • Easy to Operate: Simple controls and an intuitive interface make the Stemix user-friendly, even for operators with minimal training.
  • Easy to Clean: Designed with hygiene in mind, the Stemix is easy to clean, adhering to the high standards required in laboratory settings.

Optional Traceability Software

A highlight of the Stemix is its optional traceability software. This software allows operators to keep detailed records of the temperature profile during the mixing process. It logs user activity, process details, and any events that occur, ensuring complete traceability. The ability to generate a PDF file of the process further enhances documentation and compliance with regulatory standards.

How Stemix Works

Standard Configuration

Upon powering on, the Stemix display shows the initial values:

  • Timer: 14 minutes
  • Mixing Speed: 50 rpm
  • Mixing Temperature: Ambient temperature (°C)

When measuring the temperature of the cryo-bag housing, if the temperature exceeds the set point (typically 4°C), the Stemix begins cooling. Once the temperature stabilizes within ±1°C of the set value, an audible signal alerts the operator that the device is ready for use.

Placing the Cryo-Bag for Mixing

To start the mixing process, follow these steps:

  1. Ensure the cryo-bag is connected to the cryoprotectant bottle (for gravity addition) or to a syringe (for use with an infusion pump).
  2. Open the Stemix lid and place the cryo-bag in the housing.
  3. Secure the cryo-bag tubing in the tubing clamp.
  4. Close the lid and press the start button.

Custom Settings

Operators can adjust various settings on the Stemix to tailor the mixing process to their specific needs:

  • Mixing Program: Customize the timer, mixing temperature, and mixing speed.
  • Date and Time: Ensure accurate records.
  • User Interface Language: Select the preferred language for the user interface.
  • Restore Factory Settings: Restore the device to its original settings if necessary.
  • Temperature Calibration: Calibrate temperature settings to maintain accuracy.

The Stemix is an indispensable tool for any laboratory involved in stem cell cryopreservation. Its precise control over temperature, duration, and mixing speed, combined with its integrated traceability software, ensures the highest standards of quality and consistency in cryoprotectant mixing. With its compact design, ease of use, and compatibility with standard cryo-bags, the Stemix offers a professional and cost-effective solution that enhances the cryopreservation process and supports the advancement of stem cell research and therapies.
