Memmert adopts new eco-friendly refrigerant R290 from 2025
At Concessus, as the official distributor of Memmert in Portugal, we closely follow all innovations and improvements implemented by our international partners. We are pleased to share an important update: from 2025, Memmert’s ICH and ICP climate chambers will use the natural, environmentally friendly refrigerant R290 (propane), replacing the current R134a.
Why this change?
The adoption of R290 represents a significant step forward in terms of sustainability, energy efficiency, and regulatory compliance. With a Global Warming Potential (GWP) of just 3, this natural refrigerant drastically reduces the environmental impact of the equipment while ensuring optimised performance — even under extreme conditions.
Furthermore, this transition ensures that the equipment will fully comply with the new European Regulation 517/2014 on fluorinated greenhouse gases, which comes into effect on 1 January 2025.
